The chat control bill will be able to kill end-to-end encryption. That is a step towards being able to censor journalists and other people for their opinions online. End-to-end encryption is one of the tools to ensure people can have freedom of speech and journalists can investigate without the worry that someone can read their chat. More reasons why it is a bad idea are laid out here: https://mullvad.net/en/chatcontrol/stop-chatcontrol Moreover, Ylva Johansson - the EU Commissioner in charge of the Chat Control Bill - doesn't seem to know what end-to-end encryption really is. More about that here: https://mullvad.net/en/blog/2023/3/28/the-european-commission-does-not-understand-what-is-written-in-its-own-chat-control-bill/ I don't exactly know at what stage of the process the Chat control bill is, but if you have some ability to vote against it or argue against it, please do so. Thank you very much. (I hope this is not a duplicate I did not get a prompt if it was send the first time.)

Thank you for sending us this message. The chatcontrol initiative is indeed on the top of our agenda, and we work hard in the European Parliament on the aim to help children without deploying or enabling the mass surveillance of individuals, protecting E2EE and the integrity of encryption in general. You can find more information about what we do on this topic here : https://www.patrick-breyer.de/en/posts/chat-control/ MEP Patrick Breyer is representing the Greens/EFA group in the (ongoing) negotiations in the committee that is in the lead (LIBE), while MEP Kolaja is representing the group for the IMCO committee, which now produced its opinion on the topic. For your information, Pirate MEPs and our group are the closest to your views on this file, with the S&D and Left groups being close allies. The groups where most MEPs are against E2EE and pro-chatcontrol are EPP and Renew. Let us know if you have further questions.
